Niwot Deserves the Authority
to Shape Its Own Future
The Niwot Incorporation Committee is a resident-led effort working toward municipal incorporation for Niwot, Colorado. We believe Niwot needs a local government with the authority to address the issues that matter most — starting with downtown vitality, roads, and accountable governance.

The Case for Incorporation
Niwot is a community of approximately 4,300 residents — larger than many incorporated Colorado towns. Yet decisions about our roads, land use, building codes, and public safety are made by Boulder County, where Niwot holds just 1.3% of the electorate.
Downtown is declining while comparable incorporated towns have sustained post-pandemic gains. Roads have gone unrepaired for decades because no entity has taken responsibility. County-wide policies are applied to Niwot with no mechanism for local input or exceptions.
Incorporation would create a local government elected by and accountable to Niwot voters, with authority over the decisions that shape daily life here. The proposed tax plan — a 2.5% sales tax and 4-mill property tax — is conservative and stress-tested. County services like courts, schools, and public health continue unchanged.
